On April 11th, STMicroelectronics announced its plan to "reshape manufacturing layout and adjust global cost base". According to the plan, including previously disclosed cost base adjustments and manufacturing layout restructuring, STMicroelectronics is expected to cause up to 2800 employees worldwide to voluntarily resign within three years.

It is reported that STMicroelectronics plans to focus on investing in advanced manufacturing infrastructure and technology research and development for 300mm silicon wafers and 200mm silicon carbide in fiscal years 2025, 2026, and 2027. The company also plans to continue investing in upgrading the technology used in operations and deploying more artificial intelligence and automation technologies.

Jean Marc Chery, President and CEO of STMicroelectronics, stated, "The manufacturing restructuring plan announced today will leverage our strategic assets in Europe to ensure the future development of our Integrated Device Manufacturer (IDM) model and enhance our faster innovation capabilities, benefiting all stakeholders.

We focus on advanced manufacturing infrastructure and mainstream technologies, and will continue to fully utilize all existing factories and redefine missions for some of them to support their long-term success. We are committed to managing this program in a responsible manner, adhering to the values we have long upheld, and entirely through voluntary measures. The technology research and development, design, and mass production activities in Italy and France will continue to be the core of our global operations and will be strengthened through planned investments in mainstream technologies
