According to Roberto Vega Sol í s, President of the Tijuana Business Federation in Mexico, Samsung has decided to halt any future investments in Mexico and announced plans to lay off 30% of its workforce due to economic concerns raised by President Trump's tariff plan.

According to reports, Samsung is one of the oldest foreign companies in Mexico, producing televisions at its manufacturing plant in Tijuana, Mexico. Earlier in March, Trump imposed a 25% tariff on imports of aluminum and steel, which are important components of refrigerator manufacturing. The White House is still considering imposing tariffs on other products manufactured or grown in Mexico, which may be implemented on April 2nd. Samsung currently operates two factories in Mexico, one in Tijuana and the other in Queretaro, where the company invests millions of dollars to manufacture household appliances such as refrigerators.

According to relevant sources, Mexico's growing debt and judicial reforms are causing unease for companies like Samsung and are also factors contributing to the company's temporary suspension of investments. Uncertainty disrupts international business investment in Mexico.

According to reports, Korean companies such as Kia, Samsung Electronics, LG Electronics, and POSCO operate factories in Mexico, and a large portion of their products are exported to the United States. Kia's car factory in Monterey, Mexico produces over 250000 vehicles annually, of which over 150000 are exported to the United States. If these export products are subject to a 25% tariff, it will be difficult to compete with other locally produced brands of cars in the US market. Kia is considering multiple response plans, including exporting cars produced in Mexico to other markets such as South America instead of the United States; Expand domestic production capacity in the United States to replace vehicles originally imported from Mexico.

Another South Korean company, Samsung Electronics, is pushing to transfer its washing machine production business from Mexico to South Carolina in the United States and evaluating plans to produce and sell televisions, refrigerators, and other appliances to the United States in other countries. LG Electronics is also adjusting its production plan in Mexico, considering exporting some products to South America, while the products needed for the US market will be produced by domestic factories or third-party countries.
