According to reports, the US Department of Justice is investigating whether Nvidia attempted to evade antitrust scrutiny, which involves Nvidia's deal with artificial intelligence chip startup Groq last year.

Last December, Nvidia announced a $17 billion deal with Groq. According to the agreement, Nvidia has obtained non exclusive authorization for Groq chip technology and has also absorbed some executives, including Groq founder Jonathan Ross.

US regulatory agencies have pointed out that such "disguised acquisitions" will stifle market competition in the AI chip industry and further strengthen Nvidia's dominant position in this field.

According to a Reuters report, if the investigation finds that Nvidia had issues with its trading operations, the Department of Justice may impose fines on it, but it is highly unlikely to demand the cancellation of the transaction. As of press time, the US Department of Justice, Nvidia, and Groq have not commented on this report.
